Insurance scheme for students soon
From this academic year onwards, school-going children of Aluva are set to get a safety net around themselves.
In a unique initiative, Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath, in association with Oriental Insurance Company Limited, has initiated a proposal to provide free health cover for as many as 20,000 students of 58 government and aided schools in the Assembly constituency.

The project, which covers children up to the higher secondary level, aims to reduce absenteeism among students while ensuring that their education does not suffer from unforeseen circumstances.
Under the scheme titled MLA Student Insurance Scheme, each student will get an insurance cover of Rs. 50,000 for a period of one year, while the compensation will be Rs. 25,000 in case they lose their parents due to calamities, road accidents, drowning, etc.
“We have entered into agreements with about 20 hospitals in and around Aluva and a couple of multispecialty hospitals in Kochi city for extending their services under the scheme,” the MLA said.
At a function held here on Tuesday, K.P. Muhammad, advisory chairman of the Shifa Aljazeera Group, handed over the cheque for the premium amount to the MLA.
