CUT – Cyprus University of Technology and the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts is the only state university in Cyprus with permanent faculty members with specialization in HCI and hosts the only dedicated research lab in Cyprus with such a focus. The Cyprus University of Technology was established by law in December 2003, and enrolled its first students in September 2007. It is a new, public, and independent University and has set high values concerning its academic character, research, legal status, organisational and administrative structure. CUT research and academic staff is involved in various research activities, National and European Programmes and Projects. Research programmes cover both internal and external research funding. Even though CUT initiated its research activity very recently, it has already managed to dispose of a significant number of research projects funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and of European research projects funded under the European Research Framework Programmes (FP6 and FP7), the LIFE Programme, the European Territorial Cooperation Programmes such as Interreg IIIB Archimed, Interreg IVC, MED and other.
Within CUT, the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts (MGA) (http://www.cut.ac.cy/mga/) offers a great combination of organisational resources, institutional infrastructure, and research facilities such as high technology classrooms and offices, video conferencing facilities, various types of software, servers and website hosting facilities, and laboratories with cutting-edge technological equipment.
MGA currently has 15 academic staff and 20 PhD students and researchers with diverse backgrounds in areas related to human computer interaction, computer- supported collaborative learning, multimedia design, 3D animation, visual communication, information design, virtual reality, information seeking and social networks.
The Interaction Design studies provide me with advanced skills and knowledge of the design process as it relates to interactive production. This directly improves my capabilities in the workplace and satisfies my ongoing curiosity with all things interactive. The subject matter required to understand such an innovative field is often multi faceted and complex. I find the curriculum to be well thought out and the instructors very knowledgeable. Overall it’s been very exciting to be part of this program.
The course provides an online learning platform for students internationally, who are interested in Interaction design and wish to contribute and participate in this multi-disciplinary community created by the course. The course is offered fully online in English.
